At the Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo 2026, Viet Nam is participating with the Viet Nam-Thailand Friendship Flower Garden, built at Plot No. 13 in the Nong Dae outdoor exhibition area in the city of Udon Thani.

The garden was established through cooperation between the expo's organising committee and the Consulate General of Viet Nam in Khon Kaen, with support from the Ha Noi Gardening Association. Covering an area of more than 850 square metres, the garden provides a space to showcase Vietnamese flowers, ornamental plants, and gardening art, while expressing the friendship and close ties between the peoples of the two countries.

The highlight of the Viet Nam-Thailand Friendship Flower Garden is a central arrangement of lotus flowers forming a circular space, surrounded by roses and other flowers. This layout not only creates a harmonious landscape but also embodies the idea of combining traditional beauty with gardening art.

The lotus, a familiar cultural symbol of Viet Nam, has been chosen as the centrepiece, conveying the image of a nation that loves nature, possesses enduring vitality, and always strives towards positive values.

Speaking to a correspondent of Nhan Dan Newspaper based in Thailand, Nguyen Huy Lung, Vice President of the Ha Noi Gardening Association, said that the design concept for the Viet Nam-Thailand Friendship Flower Garden centred on lotus flowers, complemented by beds of roses in various colours. With support from the Consulate General of Viet Nam in Khon Kaen, and after several days of working alongside Thai technical staff responsible for flower care, the garden is now operational and ready to welcome distinguished visitors.

To build the Viet Nam-Thailand Friendship Flower Garden, the Vietnamese delegation studied the climate, soil characteristics, and environmental conditions in Udon Thani before selecting an appropriate design and choosing suitable flowers and plants.

Le Anh Duong, a member of the Vietnamese delegation, said that preparations were based on research into the growth characteristics of lotus flowers and local weather conditions. The delegation also worked with Thai partners on the garden's design, construction, and maintenance to ensure that the plants can adapt to the local conditions, remain healthy, and bloom throughout the expo.

The Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo 2026 is a major cultural and agricultural event in northeastern Thailand, running for 134 days. Through its participation, Viet Nam has an opportunity to showcase distinctive aspects of its gardening culture, promote the image of the country and its people, and strengthen exchanges with international friends.

Dinh Hoang Linh, Consul General of Viet Nam in Khon Kaen, said: “We named the garden the Viet Nam-Thailand Friendship Flower Garden because we want every flower and leaf to convey the sincere affection of the Vietnamese people. We hope not only to create a beautiful garden but also to tell the story of a Viet Nam that loves peace and nature, and always seeks to uphold the spirit of peace, friendship, and cooperation with neighbouring countries in the region and around the world.”

Through its participation in the expo, Viet Nam also hopes to introduce its gardening profession and experience in caring for flowers and ornamental plants, while creating opportunities for exchanges among organisations, gardeners, and visitors from many countries. These activities will help expand connections in agriculture, landscaping, and tourism development, thereby fostering greater mutual understanding among communities.

The expo not only promotes tourism but also opens opportunities for practical agricultural cooperation, including the exchange of plant varieties, sharing of garden care techniques, and development of ecological models suited to tropical regions.

In northeastern Thailand, a region whose history has been closely connected with Viet Nam through generations of overseas Vietnamese, the presence of the Friendship Flower Garden further warms the bonds of neighbourly friendship. The Viet Nam-Thailand Friendship Flower Garden therefore carries significance beyond that of a flower exhibition space.

Within the framework of the Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo 2026, Viet Nam's participation helps promote the image of the country, its people and Vietnamese gardening. The garden has become a green space where the colours of flowers help bring the peoples of the two countries closer together, looking towards future cooperation while conveying a message of friendship, cooperation, and sustainable development.

Held under the theme “Diversity of Life: Connecting People, Water, and Plants for Sustainable Living”, the Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo 2026 is a major event organised by Thailand's Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and recognised by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH).

The expo is being held on a 165-hectare site comprising natural water bodies, landscaped areas and functional zones, including 48.5 hectares designated for exhibition displays. It will run until March 14, 2027, and is expected to attract more than 3.6 million visitors.
