Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan commends Vietnamese blue berets

Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian, Commander of the Military Forces of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), has highly praised the sense of responsibility, discipline, professionalism, and military medical expertise of the officers and staff of Viet Nam’s Level-2 Field Hospital.

The visit took place amid continuing complex security and conflict developments in Bentiu and several other areas of South Sudan. During the visit, Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian directly assessed the situation, inspected organisational work, readiness, emergency response capacity, and safety assurance of Viet Nam’s Level-2 Field Hospital No.7, as well as other agencies and units in the Unity sector.

At the working session, Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian highly appreciated the strong sense of responsibility, strict discipline, professional working style, and solid military medical expertise of the hospital’s officers and personnel.

He affirmed that, despite operating in a difficult and complex environment, the hospital has consistently maintained a high professional capacity and readiness to respond to all situations, making an important contribution to the overall success of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan.

According to plan, Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian will conclude his term with UNMISS and return to India in February 2026. He previously spent three years working in Viet Nam as Defence Attaché of India.

Sharing his experiences of living and working in Viet Nam, Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian expressed his deep respect and affection for the Vietnamese people and culture, noting that after India, he considers himself “a Vietnamese citizen.”

He also conveyed his profound admiration for Viet Nam’s history of struggle for independence, freedom, and national defence in the 20th century, particularly the resilience and indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people since 1945. Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian stated that, in his view, General Vo Nguyen Giap was the most successful general of the 20th century worldwide, and he highly values the bravery, intellect, and proud traditions of the Viet Nam People’s Army.

Assessing the performance of Viet Nam’s Level-2 Field Hospital No. 7, the Commander emphasised that despite certain language barriers, the professional competence, working style, and discipline of Vietnamese officers and personnel are of top international standard.

On behalf of the hospital’s entire personnel, Major Tran Duc Tai, Director of Level-2 Field Hospital No. 7, expressed sincere gratitude to Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian and the leadership of UNMISS for their attention, guidance, and valuable feedback.

Major Tran Duc Tai said he was deeply moved by the special sentiments and profound understanding that Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian holds toward Viet Nam’s history, country, and people. He views this as a great source of encouragement for the hospital to continue overcoming difficulties in the mission area.

He affirmed that the hospital remains committed to upholding a strong sense of responsibility, maintaining strict military discipline, medical ethics, and professional conduct, and fulfilling all assigned tasks excellently, in a manner worthy of the trust of UNMISS leadership and the image of soldiers of the Viet Nam People’s Army in the international arena.
