In his address, Major Doctor Tran Duc Tai, Director of Level-2 Field Hospital No. 7, stressed that with its core mission of providing medical care, serving patients and alleviating hardship in the mission environment, the hospital consistently strives to make tangible contributions to peace and stability in the region.
He underlined Viet Nam’s enduring commitment to international cooperation and multilateral initiatives for global peace.
Serving together under the United Nations flag, he noted, is more than a duty; it is an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding, extend reciprocal support and forge lasting relationships. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to international partners and colleagues who have steadfastly supported the unit throughout its deployment.

Brigadier General Zewdu Endris Yimer, commander of the UN’s Unity Sector, highlighted that the spirit of the “Soldiers of Uncle Ho” – resilience, sacrifice and responsibility – was clearly embodied by the Vietnamese medical staff of Field Hospital No. 7, who were caring for South Sudan’s most vulnerable communities.
Praising the pivotal role of Viet Nam’s Level-2 Field Hospital, now in its seventh rotation, he described it as a cornerstone of the subsector’s medical support system and an exemplary benchmark across the mission. He commended the professionalism, sense of duty and humanity of the hospital’s team, which has significantly enhanced operational effectiveness in difficult conditions.
The ceremony also featured cultural highlights, with guests enjoying traditional Vietnamese cuisine and lively exchanges. Performances by Vietnamese military personnel alongside international colleagues fostered stronger intercultural bonds.
A similar celebration was held at the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) by Viet Nam’s Engineering Unit Rotation 4.
Speaking at the event, UNISFA Force Commander Lieutenant General Robert Yaw Affram praised the Vietnamese engineers’ daily contributions to transforming the mission’s infrastructure, creating improved working and living conditions for all peacekeeping forces.
He emphasised that the presence of senior-level guests was vivid evidence of the international community’s recognition of the Vietnamese contingent’s persistent efforts, through both sun and rain.
Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Public Services Kon Maneit Matiok expressed the government and people of Abyei’s deep gratitude for the projects delivered by Engineering Unit Rotation 4. “You have achieved major infrastructure transformations, bringing daily improvements to our local facilities,” he said.
Responding, Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Van Cuong, Head of Viet Nam’s Engineering Unit Rotation 4, affirmed: “We are not merely constructing bridges of steel and iron; we aim to build bridges of understanding and friendship between UNISFA, the local government and the people.”
These commemorations not only celebrated Viet Nam’s military heritage but also underscored the vital role of Vietnamese peacekeepers in promoting global stability, earning widespread admiration from international partners and local communities alike.
