Over the past 50 years, the Land of a Million Elephants has attained major comprehensive achievements in various fields. The political situation in Laos has remained fundamentally stable, with social security and order ensured.
The government has actively directed the implementation of the Ninth Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2021–2025), alongside two national agendas on addressing economic–financial difficulties and tackling drug-related issues, aiming towards the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 11th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.
The Lao economy has maintained fairly robust growth thanks to the strong recovery of foreign investment and tourism. GDP growth in the first nine months of 2025 reached 4.3%, moving towards the 2025 target of 4.5%.
In foreign affairs, Laos has diplomatic relations with about 150 countries and remains an active contributor to building peace, stability, and cooperation in the Asia–Pacific region. The prestige and position of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on the international stage continue to rise.

Against a backdrop of complex and unpredictable regional and global developments, the special Viet Nam–Laos relationship continues to grow both in breadth and depth. Political trust is further strengthened, while cooperation in defence, security, economy, culture, education, and other areas has yielded positive results. The sincere affection between the peoples of both countries shines even more brightly in times of hardship.
Carrying forward this proud historical mission, the younger generations of Viet Nam and Laos pledge to contribute their efforts to continue to write new golden pages imbued with steadfast and enduring solidarity between the two neighbouring countries that lean on the majestic Truong Son range and share the same waters of the Mekong River. Both parties and states are now approaching momentous political events — the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party — as the “gateway” to a new era of development.
Delighted with the important and meaningful development achievements of the Land of a Million Elephants, the party, state, and people of Viet Nam are firmly confident that under the talented and visionary leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the fraternal Lao people will continue to uphold their courage and wisdom and attain more significant accomplishments in national construction and development.
