According to the centre, in addition to the use of virtual (non-physical) cards on smartphones or integrated into citizen identification cards, the addition of physical chip-embedded passes aims to meet the travel needs of the people, increasing convenience of use, especially for elderly passengers and those who have difficulty accessing digital technology.
To facilitate citizens, the centre will begin accepting online applications from July 6, 2026, via the website vedientuonline.com.vn. The registration process has been simplified; citizens only need to provide photos of both sides of their citizen identification card along with a portrait photo of the cardholder.
The first phase of card distribution is expected to take place from July 26 to July 31, 2026. Subsequent phases will take 5 to 10 days from the date the centre receives a valid application.
Citizens can choose one of two methods for receiving their cards: either in person at the Centre’s headquarters (No. 1 Kim Ma Street, Giang Vo Ward, Ha Noi) during business hours; or via express delivery to their registered address, with shipping costs subject to the service provider’s regulations.
The Ha Noi City Traffic Management and Operation Centre also stated that, in order to ensure a synchronised transition and avoid disrupting people’s travel, the old-style free cards (without chips) will continue to be valid until December 31, 2026.
The deployment of chip-embedded electronic cards is considered a significant step in the digital transformation of the capital's public transportation sector, demonstrating the city's concern for policy beneficiaries and contributing to building a civilised and modern public transportation system.
