The event was attended by Politburo member and Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee, Dinh La Thang and former Vice President, Truong My Hoa.
The honourees were selected from 131 nominees who had made excellent achievements in the diverse fields of economics, startups, armed forces, workers, students, public servants, scientific research, artists and sports.
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee, Tat Thanh Cang extend his congratulations to the city’s exemplary young citizens, while urging the municipal youth union to continue accelerating activities and movements to promote the creativity potential of HCM City youth and introduce the outstanding performers in a timely fashion.
The vote for HCM City’s young outstanding citizens was launched by the city’s youth union in 2006. In the 10 years since its debut, the programme has honoured a total of 68 exemplary residents.
10 outstanding young citizens of 2016:
To Huynh Phuc, 12, a sixth grader of the Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted. In 2016, Phuc won five gold medals at national and international mathematics competitions.
Le Thanh Vu, 27, a police officer of the city’s Police Department of Criminal Investigation on Social Order (PC45). Since taking office in 2015, Vu has participating in dismantling many dangerous criminal gangs.
Bui Vu Nguyet Minh, 17, a student of Class 8/9 Piano of the HCM City Conservatory of Music. Minh has won many piano prizes, both at home and abroad, and regularly performed and participated in talent contests in European countries.
Doan Thien Phuc, 28, Executive Director of SetechViet Software Solution Joint Stock Company. Phuc has developed a mobile-based anti-theft device for motorbikes named S-bike. In 2016, Phuc participated in and ran many startup support activities such as the Global Shapers Annual Curators Meeting (Switzerland).
Nguyen Trung Hieu, 31, the owner of a fish hatchery in Cu Chi district’s Trung Lap Ha commune. Hieu has successfully studied the fingerling production process and achieved the best fertility rate and the most effective hatching rate at the lowest costs in the market. The hatchery’s current revenue is over VND2 billion per year, generating nearly VND700 million in profit.
Le Duy Phuc, 26, a worker of the HCM City Load Dispatch Centre. Over the past two years, he has implemented two initiatives, two scientific research topics and three administrative reform solutions, benefitting the centre over VND6.1 billion.
Nguyen Viet Thanh, 29, Director of the Psychiatric Faculty of the Binh Duc Social Protection Centre. In 2016, Thanh found and contacted 20 families of patients, and dealt with 14 cases of patients reuniting with their families.
Nguyen Lac Ha, 28, a researcher of the Center for Innovative Materials and Architectures (INOMAR). In 2016, he was the homeroom researcher of two scientific research topics, attended two international scientific conferences and had four scientific works published on prestigious specialised chemistry journals.
Nguyen Xuan Gieng, 24, an assistant lecturer at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences. He successfully defended his graduation thesis in 2016 with a perfect score of 10. Gieng claimed the third prize of the Innovation category of the national Microsoft Imagine Cup competition. He was the co-author of the international scientific article entitled “Applying Virtual Reality in City Planning”, which was published in the proceedings of the 8th International Conference Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality (VAMR 2016) held in Toronto, Canada.
Le Tu Chinh, 20, a track and field athlete of the Thong Nhat Sports Centre. Chinh brought home seven gold and one silver medal at both domestic and international competitions last year.
