Addressing the event, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan emphasised that cancer, particularly breast cancer, is a very dangerous disease. In Vietnam, the number of people suffering cancer and breast cancer are on the rise, which has a strong impact on their health and mind, as well as on their families.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Vietnamese women, as well as women in many other countries in the world. This is a potentially fatal disease that is ranked second among other types of cancer diseases.
According to Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Xuyen, about 15,000 new cases of breast cancer are reported in Vietnam each year.
In developed countries, up to 80% of breast cancer patients are cured, thanks to early detection and timely treatment. Unfortunately, in Vietnam, due to lack of awareness, around 70% of breast cancer cases get examination at later stages, leading to late treatment and poor results.
The festival included a series of activities to enhance people's awareness of prevention and early detection of breast cancer and to support women in early screening and treatment of this disease.
During the festival, 10 mobile clinics were set up to provide screening examination for about 1,000 people. Anyone suspected of having breast cancer will be provided with free mammography at Hanoi's K Hospital.
Other interesting activities such as exchanges, a photo contest and a cycling competition were also held during the festival.
