Accompanying him were Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Emilio Lozada Garcia, Head of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee's Department of International Relations.
Expressing his condolences, President Díaz-Canel emphasised that former President Tran Duc Luong was a dear comrade, a close friend, and a person who made immense contributions to the loyal and special relationship between Cuba and Viet Nam.
He affirmed that the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong is an irreplaceable loss for the Cuban people.

In the condolence book, the Cuban leader wrote that history will forever remember his example and contributions to Viet Nam’s renovation and prosperity, as well as his important role in strengthening the historic and special friendship between Cuba and Viet Nam. He noted that the Cuban people extend their heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the party, government, and people of Viet Nam as well as the family and friends of comrade Tran Duc Luong.
Following the high-level delegation of the Cuban party and state, a delegation from the Cuban Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) and Ministry of the Interior (MININT), led by Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces Álvaro López Miera, visited the embassy to pay their respects and sign the condolence book.
On the same day, leaders of various ministries and agencies, ambassadors and diplomatic representatives, and international organisations in Cuba also visited the Vietnamese Embassy to offer their condolences.

On the occasion, many Vietnamese expatriates, students, and businesses in Cuba also visited to the Embassy of Viet Nam in Havana to mourn the loss and pay their respects.
Officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy, the Defence Attaché Office, the Trade Office, and the Vietnam News Agency’s permanent mission in Cuba attended the tribute ceremony and wrote the condolence book.
Over the past few days, Cuban media agencies have continuously published articles highlighting former President Tran Duc Luong’s contributions to national development as well as the rare and precious friendship between Viet Nam and Cuba.
The memorial ceremony at the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba is being held on May 24-25, providing an opportunity for people to share in the sorrow and commemorate a distinguished leader and outstanding son of the Vietnamese nation.
