In pictures: Workers brace intense heat to complete second phase of Vinh Tuy Bridge
Despite the scorching heat of early summer, workers have been working three shifts a day on the construction site of Vinh Tuy Bridge to ensure that its second phase will be completed before September 2.
Under the blazing sun with temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, hundreds of workers and machines are busy on the construction site to maintain the progress of the project.
Vinaconex, a contractor, said they are mobilising 100 workers on three shifts so that the final section of the bridge will be completed by June 6.
So far, five out of eight structural connections have been done, and the remaining connections will be done in the next few days.

Many workers have to wear clothes with fans on them since the temperature on the bridge’s surface is much higher without shade and with heat radiating from machines.
Some others use towels to cover their faces and wear sunglasses to avoid heatstroke.

Despite the harsh weather, workers are making every effort to complete the project on time.

After the paving of concrete asphalt is done, expansion joints will be installed, one of the final stages of the project.
According to the Hanoi transport project management board, contractors are aiming to complete all the remaining work in August so that the bridge can open to traffic on September 2.
