The fifth International Conference on Vietnamese Studies (ICVS) is taking place in Hanoi from December 15 to 18, 2016.

The opening ceremony on December 15 was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and leaders from ministries and departments, along with domestic and international scientists.

The conference was organised by the Vietnam National University – Hanoi under the theme ‘Sustainable Development in the Context of Global Change’. It aims to establish an international academic forum for experts to discuss and propose solutions to tackle temporary issues that Vietnam is dealing with in the context of global change.

It also gathers and connects researchers and experts from various fields and different countries in promoting the global network of Vietnamese Studies. The conference will cover six specialised fields, including diplomacy, international cooperation and integration, cultural resource, education and human resources, knowledge and technology transfer, economy - livelihood and climate change.

The Deputy PM said the conference, is an important event that offers a chance for scientists and the Vietnamese Government to share research results, development experiences and knowledge of a perpetually developing Vietnam with growing power and position, bringing Vietnam closer to the rest of the world.

The event also illustrates the developing network of Vietnamese studies in the world, he added.

He expressed his wish that international scientists will continue to stand side-by-side with Vietnamese counterparts to build and develop Vietnamese studies in the world, in particular the establishment of more centres for Vietnamese studies in foreign countries, which will contribute to the development of the science as well boost co-operation between countries for a world of peace, friendship, co-operation and sustainable development.
