Many articles focus on analysing the significance of the Congress for the process of selecting senior leadership, shaping socio-economic development orientations, as well as Viet Nam’s role and position amid regional and global uncertainties.

Agence France-Presse (AFP), the French news agency, highlights the pivotal significance of the Congress, noting priorities for the next five years such as promoting the private sector, accelerating digital transformation and technological innovation, and pursuing annual economic growth of 10% or higher during the 2026–2030 period. The agency also notes that collective leadership remains an important feature of Viet Nam’s political system.

The US-based Associated Press (AP) reports on this important event of Viet Nam, outlining the key issues to be discussed by delegates. Meanwhile, the UK’s BBC underscores that the 14th National Party Congress is the forum for making the most important decisions of Viet Nam’s political system over the next five years, ranging from economic and foreign policies to personnel work.

The Financial Times (FT) observes that the 14th Party Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam is taking place at a time when Viet Nam’s economy - one of the fastest-growing in the world - is adapting to global trade tensions and profound changes in the international economic environment. The FT assesses that Viet Nam is facing the need to shift its development model from one heavily reliant on exports and foreign investment to one that strengthens the economy’s internal resilience.

According to the FT, reforms of the State apparatus, the emphasis on the role of the private economic sector, and the pursuit of double-digit growth reflect the leadership’s efforts to realise the aspiration of becoming a developed country by 2045.

From the perspective of economic prospects, China Daily of China notes that the 14th National Party Congress is being held as Viet Nam emerges as a “growth bright spot” in Southeast Asia. Citing data showing that Viet Nam recorded GDP growth of over 8% in the past year - the highest in ASEAN - the newspaper points out that the documents submitted to the Congress have, for the first time, placed science, technology and innovation at the centre of the national development strategy for the next five years.

According to foreign media outlets, the 14th National Party Congress plays a decisive role in defining Viet Nam’s political and economic orientations for the remainder of the decade. Large-scale administrative reforms, efforts to streamline the apparatus, and initiatives to promote infrastructure investment undertaken in recent years demonstrate a development orientation that prioritises rapid growth alongside the maintenance of security and political stability.

The 14th National Party Congress is not only of domestic political significance but is also an event closely watched by the international community. The decisions and personnel selections made at the Congress are expected to shape Viet Nam’s development path for many years to come, as the country stands at the intersection of major opportunities and complex challenges in the international environment.

The theme of the 14th National Party Congress is “Under the glorious flag of the Party, joining hands and uniting wills to successfully realise the country’s development goals to 2030; ensuring strategic autonomy, fostering self-reliance and confidence, advancing firmly in the era of national rise for peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, civilisation and happiness, and steadfastly progressing towards socialism”.

The Congress is attended by 1,586 delegates, representing more than 5.6 million Party members of the Communist Party of Viet Nam. The Congress will discuss and adopt four key documents, including the Political Report; the Report reviewing key theoretical and practical issues after 40 years of renewal; the Report reviewing 15 years of implementing the Party Charter; and the Report reviewing the leadership and direction of the 13th Party Central Committee. One of the core tasks of the 14th National Party Congress is to elect the 14th Party Central Committee.
