* Olympique Lyonnais boosted their hopes of playing Champions League football next season after a 5-2 win at Dijon in an entertaining Ligue 1 match on Friday. The victory left Lyon third on 69 points from 34 matches, one behind second-placed Monaco and three ahead of fourth-placed Olympique Marseille, who both have a game in hand.
* Borussia Moenchengladbach cruised past struggling VfL Wolfsburg 3-0 on Friday to revive their hopes of European football next season and leave the Wolves deep in relegation trouble with three matches remaining. The hosts moved up to 43 points in eighth place, three off the sixth place that leads to the Europa League.
* La Liga club Espanyol sacked coach Quique Sanchez Flores after just under two seasons in charge, also announcing on Friday that they have parted ways with sporting director Jordi Lardin. Espanyol have lost four of their last five games in La Liga without scoring a goal and their recent form has sent them down to 16th in the standings.
* Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero will be out of action for up to five weeks but he should be ready for the World Cup with Argentina, manager Pep Guardiola said on Friday. The 29-year-old, who has scored 21 Premier League goals for City this season, is recovering from knee surgery having not started a match for the last six weeks.
* Former Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar has confirmed he will retire from football following Flamengo's home clash with America Mineiro in the Brazilian Serie A on Saturday. Having begun his career with Flamengo in 1998, Cesar moved to Europe in 2005 and enjoyed successful spells with Chievo, Inter Milan, Queens Park Rangers and Benfica.
