Entering the final with confidence after a string of positive results, coach Cristiano Roland’s side quickly took control of the match, proactively launching attacks from the opening minutes. Meanwhile, U17 Malaysia adopted a deep defensive approach, focusing on protecting their penalty area.

In the eighth minute, U17 Viet Nam created an early chance when Sy Bach broke through and fired from a tight angle, only to see his effort hit the post. Sustained pressure soon paid off. In the 11th minute, from a corner-kick routine, Quy Vuong struck decisively to open the scoring at 1-0 for Viet Nam.

After conceding, Malaysia maintained a low defensive block, allowing Viet Nam to continue dictating the tempo. The red-shirted side repeatedly threatened, particularly from set pieces. In the 43rd minute, Nguyen Luc delivered a dangerous free-kick, but the opposing goalkeeper made a timely save.

Viet Nam’s attacking efforts were rewarded again in first-half stoppage time. In the 45+4th minute, following a run down the left flank, Nguyen Luc provided an assist for Van Duong, who surged forward and finished, with the ball striking the frame before crossing the line to make it 2-0.

In the second half, Viet Nam continued to dominate proceedings. In the 55th minute, a swift counterattack saw Tri Dung deliver a precise cross for Van Duong to score against Malaysia. After a VAR review, the goal was confirmed, extending the lead to 3-0.

With a comfortable advantage, Viet Nam eased the tempo, maintaining firm control of possession and preventing their opponents from creating any significant chances. In the remaining minutes, the team retained their dominance but did not add to the scoreline.

At full time, U17 Viet Nam emerged as convincing 3-0 winners, securing the 2026 AFC U17 Championship. This marked their sixth appearance in a final and their fourth title, following previous triumphs in 2006, 2010, and 2017.

With this achievement, U17 Viet Nam officially surpassed regional rivals to become the most decorated team in the tournament’s history.

In addition to the team title, several players received individual honours. Midfielder Nguyen Luc was named Player of the Tournament, while goalkeeper Xuan Hoa was awarded Best Goalkeeper.

After the match, Viet Nam Football Federation President Tran Quoc Tuan congratulated the team and praised their fighting spirit and clear progress. Federation leaders also emphasised the need for the squad to maintain focus and prepare thoroughly for the upcoming 2026 AFC U17 Championship finals.

The regional title is not only a deserved reward for thorough preparation but also an important stepping stone as U17 Viet Nam set their sights on greater ambitions at the continental level.
