Lisbon to host 2025 Women's Champions League final

The 2025 Women's Champions League final will be played at Lisbon's Estadio Jose Alvalade, European soccer's governing body UEFA said on Wednesday.

UEFA's executive committee also decided that the Greek capital of Athens and the Polish city of Wroclaw would stage the Europa Conference League Final in 2024 and 2025, respectively. Those matches will be played at Athens' Agia Sofia Stadium and WKS Slask Wroclaw.

* Inter Miami have named Gerardo Martino as their new coach, the MLS side said on Wednesday, reuniting the Argentine with compatriot Lionel Messi. The 60-year-old previously coached Messi at Barcelona and for Argentina between 2013 and 2016.

* Germany's Bayern Munich will not renew a much-criticised sponsorship deal with Qatar Airways after it expires at the end of June, the Bundesliga champions said on Wednesday. The club said the deal would end by mutual consent after five years and that the connections forged with fans in the Arab world through Qatar Airways would remain.

* Bayern Munich have agreed personal terms with England captain Harry Kane, German daily Bild reported Wednesday (Jun 28), but an initial €70 million (US$76 million) bid was rejected by Tottenham Hotspur. The German champions are said to be intent on securing the signing of England's record scorer, whose contract with Spurs runs out in 2024.

* US gymnastics star Simone Biles is set to make her first competitive appearance since the Tokyo Olympics after entering the US Classic, USA Gymnastics announced on Wednesday (Jun 28). The Aug 4 to Aug 5 competition would be her first since the four-time Olympic gold medallist withdrew from most of her events in Tokyo in 2021 with mental health and safety concerns.

* Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has left Chelsea to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli, the two clubs announced on Wednesday (Jun28). Mendy joined Premier League Chelsea from Stade Rennais in 2020 and the 31-year-old played a pivotal role as the London club won their second Champions League title with a 1-0 win over Manchester City in the final in 2021.

* Arsenal have signed Germany forward Kai Havertz from Chelsea on a long-term contract, the Premier League club said on Wednesday (Jun 28). The transfer fee has not been disclosed but British media reported Arsenal will pay Chelsea 65 million pounds (US$82.63 million) with an additional 5 million pounds in add-ons.

* Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday (Jun 28) completed the signing of creative midfielder James Maddison from relegated Leicester in a deal worth 40 million pounds (46.3m euros) plus add-ons. The 26-year-old England international signed a five-year deal.

* Jose Mourinho wore a microphone to "protect himself" when his AS Roma side faced Monza in May, but he could not resist a dig at the referee after the game and was handed a 10-day touchline ban on Wednesday (Jun 28). Mourinho will miss his team's Serie A season opener due to the suspension and was also given a 50,000 euros (US$54,610) fine for comments made towards referee Daniele Chiffi, the Italian FA said.
