Living in harmony with nature and promoting sustainable development

On May 22, at Cuc Phuong National Park, in northern Ninh Binh Province, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in coordination with the People's Committee of Ninh Binh Province, held a ceremony to commemorate the International Day for Biological Diversity.

Attending the ceremony were representatives of the leadership of central and local ministries and sectors, organisations, embassies, research centres, and domestic and international scientists.

The theme of this year's International Day for Biological Diversity emphasises the intrinsic link between nature conservation and sustainable socio-economic development, while also calling for the integrated implementation of the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To spread the message and enhance the effectiveness of action, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment issued Official Dispatch No. 1863/BNNMT-TTTT dated May 9, 2025 to central agencies, ministries, mass organisations, and People's Committees of provinces and cities regarding the organisation of activities in response to the International Day for Biological Diversity 2025.

Accordingly, ministries, sectors, and localities, based on the actual situation, are to strengthen communication, education, and public awareness of nature conservation and biodiversity; diversify communication channels on biodiversity; and at the same time implement solutions to effectively realise the National Biodiversity Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2050.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requested that ministries, central sectors, mass organisations, and the People's Committees of provinces and cities focus on five key areas: Strengthen communication, education, and community awareness of biodiversity conservation, especially recognising and promoting effective community initiatives and models; Effectively implement national strategies and planning on biodiversity for the period to 2030, with a vision to 2050, aiming for ecosystem recovery, sustainable use, and connectivity to support green economic development and climate change adaptation; Mobilise and diversify financial resources and investment for nature conservation, promote international cooperation to enhance technical and financial support and sustainable livelihood development for communities; Promote research, investigation, monitoring, and the application of science and technology in conserving and sustainably using biodiversity, especially in the increasingly complex context of climate change; Strengthen cross-border and international cooperation in controlling the trade of wild fauna and flora, sharing experiences, and enhancing conservation capacity.

With action slogans such as “Living in harmony with nature and promoting sustainable development”, “Biodiversity – Nature’s gift to life”, the message of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2025 is not only a reminder of responsibility, but also an opportunity for Viet Nam and the entire world to join hands and act for a healthy planet and a prosperous future.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment launched a series of activities in response to the International Day for Biological Diversity under the global theme “Living in harmony with nature and promoting sustainable development”, calling on the community, authorities at all levels, organisations, businesses, and individuals to act together for the goal of restoring and protecting biodiversity, the foundation of life on Earth.
