Losing 0-1 to Indonesia, Vietnam faces difficulties at AFC Asian Cup

The Vietnamese men’s national football team unfortunately conceded on the penalty spot and lost 0-1 to Indonesia in the second match of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup on January 19.

In the 41st minute, Indonesia gained a penalty after Thanh Binh continuously pulled Rafael Struick's shirt in the penalty area. Asnawi successfully scored to help Indonesia get in front.

The Vietnamese pushed their team to attack and dominate in the early part of the second half, although they failed to score any goals.

Coach Troussier's students couldn’t find an effective method of attack throughout the match. Even at minute 90'+1, the Vietnamese team played with ten members, as Le Pham Thanh Long received a second yellow card and was disqualified.

The match ended in 1-0 for Indonesia. After two matches at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, the Vietnamese team did not gain any points. In the final match on January 24, Vietnam will face Iraq.
