In his speech at the opening ceremony, Nghe An Chairman Nguyen Duc Trung recalled the childhood of President Ho Chi Minh, who was raised in the love and teaching of his parents and siblings.
During his childhood years, his compassionate, competent and hard-working mother, Hoang Thi Loan, had a strong influence on the formation of his personality and morality, said Trung.
He added that Nghe An Province holds the Lotus Village Festival every May on the occasion of his birth to pay tribute the founder of modern Vietnam as well as to introduce the image of a dynamic and friendly province with many opportunities for cooperation and development.
This year’s festival features a wide range of culture, sports and tourism activities, mainly in Vinh City, Nam Dan District and Cua Lo Town.
Some of them include an exhibition on President Ho Chi Minh, performances of UNESCO-listed vi giam folk songs, a cooking contest with dishes made from lotus, folk games, a hot-air balloon festival, and a street festival with colourful art performances.
A highlight of the Lotus Village Festival is an art programme entitled “The Mother of the Lotus Village” held in Vinh and Hue, where Uncle Ho and his family lived for ten years. The programme aims to honour the late leader and his mother.
To close the festival, an art programme entitled “From the Lotus Village to Ho Chi Minh City” will demonstrate the sentiments of Ho Chi Minh City’s government and people on May 19, the birthday of President Ho Chi Minh.
