In his opening remarks, Bui Quang Huy, Secretary of the HCYU Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Students’ Association, affirmed that the implementation of the programme aims to widely disseminate the glorious traditions of generations of Vietnamese youth in the cause of national construction and protection, as well as the gratitude tradition of the nation.
Through the festival’s activities, young people will gain a better insight into the glorious history and revolutionary traditions of the Party and the nation, thereby raising their awareness and promoting the pioneering, voluntary and creative spirit of young people in their engagement in socio-economic development, the building of new-style rural areas, and care for people in border localities, Huy stated.
He called on youth union members nationwide to promote their youthful power and enthusiasm to effectively implement the contents of the “March in border areas” festival, in addition to accelerating the education of patriotism and paying tribute to fallen soldiers through practical actions and deeds.
During the programme, the delegates and a large crowd of Ha Giang youth union members met and talked with musician Truong Quy Hai, a former soldier of Army Division 356 who fought on the Vi Xuyen battlefield in the past battle to protect the northern border, and Hoang Nam Tien, Chairman of FPT Software. Tien is the son of Major General Hoang Dan, who was assigned to directly command the fighting at the Vi Xuyen front.

In order to pay tribute to the Vi Xuyen front soldiers who fought to safeguard national territorial integrity, the HCYU Central Committee, the Vietnam Youth Federation, the Border Guard Command, and the Standing Board of the Ha Giang provincial Party Committee presented gifts to 40 veterans of the Vi Xuyen front, and scholarships to 20 ethnic minority students who are living in extremely difficult circumstances. The FPT Telecom Joint Stock Company, in coordination with the HCYU Central Committee, presented 480 learning corners to 480 primary students who are children of war invalids and martyrs' families in extreme difficulties in the districts of Vi Xuyen and Hoang Su Phi, and 2,500 national flags to 2,500 households in four border communes of Vi Xuyen district.
As part of the festival’s activities, the HCYU Central Committee and the Vietnam Youth Federation coordinated with units and organisations to organise many meaningful activities, including providing free medical check-ups, advice and medicine distribution for 500 people, offering free haircuts for 500 people and children in Thanh Thuy commune, Vi Xuyen district, as well as visiting and presenting gifts to the border guard station at the Thanh Thuy International Border Gate and handing over a children’s playground at the Coc Nghe village kindergarten in Thanh Thuy commune.
