Messi eager to face new challenge at Inter Miami

Lionel Messi has no regrets about his decision to join Inter Miami and said he is eager to face a new challenge.

The 36-year-old arrived in the United States on Tuesday (July 11) ahead of his presentation as an Inter Miami player at a special event on Sunday. "I'm happy with the decision we made. I'm ready and eager to face the new challenge," Messi said in an interview with Argentinian TV on Tuesday. Messi is expected to make his debut for the club on July 21 in a Leagues Cup clash against Mexican side Cruz Azul.

* Tottenham Hotspur's Ryan Sessegnon has undergone surgery on his left hamstring following an injury he sustained in pre-season training, the Premier League club said on Tuesday. As a consequence, the left back will not be available for Tottenham's upcoming Asia-Pacific pre-season tour, the club added, during which Spurs will face West Ham United, Leicester City and AS Roma.

* Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar remains in intensive care but is in a stable condition and out of immediate danger following his bleed on the brain last week, his wife Annemarie confirmed on Tuesday. Van der Sar was admitted to a Split hospital on Friday while on holiday in Croatia.

* Japanese forward Kazuyoshi Miura may be the world's oldest professional football player but he is not ready to hang up his boots just yet and the 56-year-old, known as King Kazu, extended his loan deal with Portugal's second-tier club Oliveirense on Tuesday. Former Japan international Miura, who earned nearly 90 caps between 1990-2000 scoring 55 goals, joined Oliveirense in January on loan from promoted Japanese J1 League side Yokohama.

* Pello Bilbao wanted to ride the Tour de France in memory of his former team mate Gino Mader, who died following a crash in Switzerland last month, and on Tuesday he secured a poignant victory as he won the 10th stage in smart and gritty fashion. The Spaniard was among the Bahrain Victorious riders who left the Tour de Suisse after Swiss Mader died on June 16 and he then took some time off with his family to recover.

* Morocco have included Tottenham Hotspur forward Rosella Ayane in their final squad for the women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, one of 14 overseas-based players selected by coach Reynald Pedros. Ayane, who was born in England, was a leading figure in helping Morocco to the silver medal at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where the country earned their maiden qualification for the World Cup.

* Leicester City have signed Belgium international Janice Cayman from Olympique Lyonnais, subject to league and international clearance, the Women's Super League side said on Tuesday. The 34-year-old joined Lyon in 2019, helping them to two Women's Champions League trophies, three league titles and two French Cups.

* Unseeded Marketa Vondrousova reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon with a roller-coaster 6-4 2-6 6-4 win over American Jessica Pegula in the last eight on Tuesday. The Czech came through a topsy-turvy encounter on Court One against the fourth seed to book a clash with Ukraine's Elina Svitolina, who beat world number one Iga Swiatek.

* Australian Daniel Ricciardo has joined the AlphaTauri Formula One team on loan from Red Bull Racing for the rest of the 2023 season, taking Nyck de Vries's seat from the Hungarian Grand Prix next week, the team announced on Tuesday. Ricciardo raced for Red Bull from 2014 to 2018, winning seven races, after two seasons with sister team Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri) from 2012-13.

* Tottenham Hotspur have signed Manor Solomon on a free transfer with the Israel winger agreeing a five-year deal, the Premier League club said on Tuesday. The 23-year-old was with Shakhtar Donetsk but spent last season on loan at Fulham when world soccer governing body FIFA allowed players to suspend their contracts with Ukrainian clubs.

* Chelsea will play four Women's Super League (WSL) games and all Champions League home games at Stamford Bridge next season and have increased their ticket prices as part of a "long-term commercial plan" for the team, the club said on Tuesday.
