The ceremony was attended by Politburo member, Minister of Defence Phung Quang Thanh, and representatives from ministries, central agencies and sectors.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister Thanh said the award marks the recognition by the Party, State and people for the contributions made by generations of the MMA during the resistance war against the French colonists for national salvation, as well as in the national development cause.

During the 1949-1954 period, the academy trained nearly 400 medical military doctors for the army who contributed significantly during the resistance war.

To date, with nearly 3,000 staff, 12 professors, 92 associate professors and over 100 doctors, the MMA has trained nearly 60,000 medical units and staff, and conducted nearly 6,000 scientific research technical innovation projects.

Over the past, the Vietnamese medical academy has also become an important force in dealing with the consequences of natural disasters and engaging in healthcare for the community, especially in remote and mountainous regions.
