This marks the first stage of a two-year collaborative art project (2025–2026) between the Viet Nam Youth Theatre, SangsangMaru Theatre and the Guri Cultural Foundation (the Republic of Korea).

A reading showcase is a preliminary performance format in which actors read dialogues and perform key songs, allowing the audience to grasp the plot, spirit and message of the work - a common model in the professional musical theatre industry.

“My Dream” is adapted from a play written by Nguyen Thi Thanh Thanh, winner of the “Playwriting competition for children in Viet Nam” under the theme “Viet Nam’s stories touch the world.”

The competition was jointly organised by the Viet Nam Youth Theatre and SangsangMaru Theatre, with the support of the Ministries of Culture, Sports and Tourism of both countries and the Viet Nam Stage Artists Association.

The musical tells a touching story about Linh, a girl living with the after-effects of Agent Orange who dreams of creating technology to help the disadvantaged. Overcoming adversity, Linh discovers the strength to make her dream come true, delivering a profound humanitarian message that every dream deserves to be cherished.

The performance featured vivid acting by artists from the Viet Nam Youth Theatre, accompanied by uplifting, inspirational music composed and directed by Korean musician Rhim Seyoung. The work also weaves in Vietnamese folk melodies, creating a distinctive cultural identity.

Earlier, in April 2025, the Korean-language version of “My Dream” was introduced at the Guri City Arts Centre in the Republic of Korea (RoK).

According to Meritorious Artist Si Tien, Director of the Viet Nam Youth Theatre, this is the first musical project marking tripartite collaboration between Viet Nam and the RoK, aimed at developing musical theatre for children, families and young audiences. The project also offers young Vietnamese artists valuable opportunities to learn from professional international environments, following the success of previous joint projects, “The Goblin’s Child” and “Zorba – The Detective Cat.”

Um Dongyoul, Director of SangsangMaru Theatre, shared that after the reading showcase, the creative team will incorporate audience, and expert feedback to refine the script and music, before the official stage production in 2026, which will later be presented in performance programmes in the RoK.
