The project has a total investment of US$10.77 million including a non-refundable aid of US$10.5 million from the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) managed by the World Bank and a counterpart fund of US$0.27 million.

The project will be carried out from 2016 to 2020 with the aim of improving the quality and efficiency of the public transport system along the priority corridor in the city.

Under the project, districts and urban areas along the priority corridor will be designed and adjusted in accordance with the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) approach - an urban development plan relying on public transport.

In addition, the city will build a mechanism to encourage the private sector to invest in public transport infrastructure and a legal and regulatory framework for streamlined urban development based on the TOD principle.

The project is expected to increase the attractiveness of the bus rapid transit (BRT) system and increase the number of passengers using the bus system from 24,700 to 27,000 per day in the fifth year of the project, and to 29,000 per day in the sixth year of the project.
