The exhibition displays 250 paintings, graphic works, sculptures and applied fine arts by 218 artists from 14 northern mountainous provinces including Tuyen Quang, Bac Giang, Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Dien Bien, Ha Giang, Hoa Binh, Lai Chau, Lang Son, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Son La, Thai Nguyen, Yen Bai and Vinh Phuc.
The exhibits were selected from 312 entries from the competition which was launched between August 2012 and July 2013.
The works were created by various materials and feature the beauty of Vietnam’s landscapes and traditional culture. They also reflect the country’s achievements during the Doi moi (Renovation) period.
The organising board presented one A, one B and one C prizes to the silk painting ‘Sinh ra tu da’ (Born from Stone) by Mai Manh Hung from Tuyen Quang province, wood carving work ‘Nu du kich Chieng Khoi’ (Chieng Khoi Female Guerilla) by Nguyen Luu from Vinh Phuc and oil painting ‘Ngo’ (Alley) by Ta Quang from Phu Tho, respectively. Five consolation prizes were also awarded to outstanding works.
The exhibition, which is scheduled to run through September 6, is held to mark the 68th anniversary of Vietnamese National Day (September 2).
