Venezuelan Keydomar Giovanni Vallenilla Sanchez was closest behind the winner to earn silver (387). And, competing for Georgia, Anton Pliesnoi was good enough to take the bronze.

The Qatari El-Bakh put up 177kg in the snatch before sliding into the clean and jerk and setting an Olympic record in that lift with a weight of 225kg. It was one of two Olympic records he broke on the night -- along with a massive combined score of 402 that was too much for any of his competitors on the day to even approach.

He attempted a world record 232kg clean and jerk but wasn't able to make the lift.

Aside from a piece of personal history for El-Bakh, the gold medal is a first-ever Olympic title for Qatar.

France wins first ever judo mixed team gold medal

France have become the first judo mixed team gold medallist after beating host nation Japan 4-1 at the Nippon Budokan.

Two powerhouses of the mixed team went head-to-head for the coveted Olympic gold medal as the event made it's first appearance on the Olympic Games schedule.

It was the first time France had beaten Japan in three-meetings in the gold medal bout, with two of those previously at World Championships.

Japanese athletes have dominated judo events at Tokyo 2020, coming away with nine gold medals, two silver and one bronze - equaling the record for most judo medals won by a nation at a single Olympics (Japan holds the record with 12 from Rio 2016).

France also had a successful Olympic Judo campaign taking eight medals at Tokyo 2020 to surpass their record for most judo medals at a single Olympic Games (seven at Barcelona 1992 and London 2012).

The 37-year-old lifted a combined 374 kg, falling short of the 378 kg he set to win gold at the 2019 world championships in Pattaya, Thailand.

He set three new Olympic Records - 170kg for snatch, 204 for Clean & Jerk and 374 total.

Dominican Republic’s Zacarias Bonnat Michel won the silver and Italy’s Antonino Pizzolato won the bronze.
