Philippe Troussier becomes new head coach of Vietnam football team

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has reached an agreement and signed a contract with coach Philippe Troussier as the new head coach of Vietnam's national and U23 men’s football teams.

According to the VFF’s announcement on February 16, Troussier’s contract with the VFF begins March 1, 2023,and ends July 31, 2026.

In terms of salary, Philippe Troussier will receive about 60,000 USD a month, which was the salary of Vietnam’s previous head coach Park Hang-seo.

The first task of the new head coach will be to build the force and work plan of the U23 Vietnam team, which is expected to be the focus in early March, in order to prepare for the 32nd SEA Games hosted by Cambodia in May, 2023.

In addition to the task of defending the 32nd SEA Games Gold Medal and aiming to regain the AFF Cup 2024 championship, Troussier is also expected to help the Vietnamese team create a miracle in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, with FIFA having increased the number of participants in the final round to 48 teams.

Philippe Troussier was born on March 21, 1955, in Paris, France. He is known as a seasoned football expert whohas served as head coach at various teams around the world at both club and national team levels.

In particular, he has spent 3 years working in Vietnam as a strategic adviser and then technical director at the Promotion Fund of Vietnamese Football Talent (PVF) Academy and led the Vietnam U19 team to win tickets to the 2020 AFC U-19 Championship.
