The programme aims to foster the tradition of “Uong nuoc nho nguon” (Remembering the source when drinking water) and strengthen cultural exchange and connectivity among localities.

The Ancestor Worship Ritual Area is home to a shrine dedicated to the Hung Kings, the nation’s forefathers, at the Viet Nam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism.

During the National Day holiday on September 2, this special spiritual space was introduced to residents and visitors. Ha Noi aims to promote the value of the Ritual Area and develop it into a cultural and religious heritage site, a venue for traditional education and a representative cultural tourism destination of the capital, where visitors can learn about and experience traditional cultural heritage values.

On October 10 and 11, Hung Vuong Square and the Ancestor Worship Ritual Area will host cultural and folk art performances featuring artisans, performers and members of ethnic communities. The highlight will be an incense-offering ceremony in honour of the Hung Kings.

At 9am on October 10, an incense-offering ceremony in honour of the Hung Kings will take place at the Ancestor Worship Ritual Area. A delegation of officials, together with artisans and representatives of all 54 ethnic groups, will conduct a ceremonial procession, present offerings and burn incense at the Temple dedicated to the Hung Kings, the nation’s forefathers. The ritual is an expression of reverence for the nation’s roots, honours the worship of the Hung Kings, recalls the tradition of “Uong nuoc nho nguon” (Remembering the source when drinking water), and promotes patriotism and the spirit of national unity. From the sacred space dedicated to the nation’s forefathers, cultural and religious values associated with the nation’s origins are connected with the cultural life of the communities residing at the Village.

On October 10 and 11, Hung Vuong Square and the Ancestor Worship Ritual Area will host cultural and folk art performances featuring artisans, performers and members of ethnic communities. The programme is organised by the Ha Noi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Phu Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ca Mau Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and other relevant agencies.

The delegation of officials, artisans and people from Phu Tho will showcase folk art forms associated with the ancestral land of the Hung Kings, including Xoan singing and Gheo singing, along with cultural exchange activities. Khmer people from Ca Mau Province will take part and introduce the traditional cultural values of the southernmost region of the country. Together with the ethnic communities living at the Village, these diverse cultural expressions will create a space for connection under the theme “Sharing the Bloodline of Lac Hong”.

Visitors can try their hand at making ‘chung’ (square glutinous rice cake) and ‘giay’ (glutinous rice cake) at Nghi Mon in the Ancestor Worship Ritual Area; take part in human chess at Hung Vuong Square; and learn about traditional crafts, handicraft products and ethnic cuisine through demonstration programmes.

As part of the programme, the photo exhibition “Heritage roots in the heart of the Capital” will display around 100 photographs and panels documenting the construction of the Ancestor Worship Ritual Area, the worship of the Hung Kings, cultural activities of ethnic communities and the connection between heritage values.

The programme will also feature a Ha Noi cultural and culinary space showcasing traditional arts, craft village products and signature dishes of the capital. Visitors can also explore specialities, distinctive products and OCOP products from Ha Noi, Phu Tho and other localities.

The programme will contribute to promoting the value of the Ancestor Worship Ritual Area, strengthening heritage links between Ha Noi and other localities, and adding a spiritual and cultural tourism product associated with the Viet Nam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism. It will also provide an opportunity for artisans, ethnic communities and local communities to exchange, perform and pass on traditional cultural values to residents and visitors.
