The event focused on core technologies for deploying Open RAN on a global scale.

The conference brought together representatives from telecommunications organisations and enterprises, as well as domestic and international researchers, to discuss pathways for expanding the commercialisation of Open RAN towards efficient and sustainable digital infrastructure. Speakers included representatives from the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), the O-RAN Alliance, the Ministry of Science and Technology, Qualcomm, and Viettel.

At the conference, GSMA shared insights into the growth potential and global impact of Open RAN technology, while the O-RAN Alliance provided updates on current developments and directions for the upcoming 5G–6G era. Qualcomm highlighted the critical role of application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) in scaling up the Open RAN platform.

Gartner presented its 5G RAN market analysis report. Viettel representatives shared their large-scale deployment experience in Viet Nam, underscoring the country’s growing presence on the global telecommunications map.

Testing results showed that Viettel’s 5G equipment, powered by Qualcomm chipsets, achieved up to 24% energy savings under high-load conditions while maintaining stable performance with download speeds of 1.2–1.7 Gb/s, comparable to leading global providers. Following successful domestic implementation, Viettel plans to expand to international markets and develop next-generation 5G-Advanced and 6G technologies.

Leading telecommunications experts recognised this as a major milestone not only for Viettel but also for Viet Nam, marking the first time a Make in Viet Nam technology product has been acknowledged by several globally respected market research institutions. This recognition further affirms Viet Nam’s technological capability and its emergence as a player on the global stage.

The Viettel–Qualcomm partnership aims to build a sustainable open technology supply chain.

Speaking at the event, Nguyen Khac Lich, Director General of the Department of Information Technology Industry under the Ministry of Science and Technology, commended Viettel for its pioneering role in undertaking a national mission, making Viet Nam one of the few countries with the capability to independently research, design, and manufacture 5G equipment.

The Viettel–Qualcomm partnership represents not only a collaboration between two enterprises and two brands, but also a bridge between two nations and two industries. Together, they share the common goal of developing a safe and sustainable open technology supply chain, fostering innovation and global digital workforce development, and co-creating a smarter, greener, and more human-centred connected world.
