Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong made the request at the 67th National People's Public Security Conference in Hanoi yesterday.
Public security forces should actively uncover, prevent and defeat all schemes by hostile forces to maintain national security, social order and safety in all situations, he stressed.
He asked the forces to continue acceleration of administrative reforms, especially in handling affairs relating to the operations of organisations, businesses and citizens.
In addition, they should actively put forth measures to strengthen the organisation and apparatus, improve working efficiency and increase investment in vehicles, equipment and other conditions that serve the performance of their tasks, he said.
He stressed the need to further strengthen Party building as well as improve leadership and capacity of Party organisations among the people's public security forces.
He praised the achievements made by the people's public security forces in 2011 which he said contributed to the country's common achievements.
Despite difficulties and challenges in domestic and world situations, the people's public security forces had upheld their core role in ensuring political security and maintaining social order and safety, he said.
The forces have effectively struggled against all kinds of crimes and quickly detected many serious cases, winning the unanimity and support of the public, he added.
However, the Party chief asked the public security forces to clarify shortcomings and weaknesses, and their reasons in order to ensure timely and effective measures.
