France will take on Argentina in the World Cup final after beating Morocco 2-0 in the  Wednesday’s semi-final to stay on course for a successful title defence. 

Lionel Messi’s penalty and a double from Julian Alvarez helped Argentina win a 3-0 victory over Croatia and enter the final. The opponent of Messi and his teammates will be determined after the next semi-final between France and Morocco.

In the last match of the 2022 World Cup knockout round, Portugal played sublimely and defeated Switzerland 6-1 to reach quarters. Meanwhile, Morocco stubbornly put Spain into the penalty shootout that sent them through to the World Cup quarter-finals with a 3-0 win over the former champions.

The 0-2 defeat against the Netherlands in the last match of Group A on November 29 caused the host Qatar to say goodbye to the 2022 World Cup; meanwhile Senegal beat Ecuador 2-1 to join the Netherlands in the next round. The US and England also won the tickets to the 1/8 round.
