Held on February 12 and 13, it aimed to celebrate the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and formed part of the seminar series “Current Issues in Vietnamese Studies” as well as the year of cooperation in science and education between the two nations. Discussions focused on Viet Nam’s history, economy, foreign policy and culture.

Speaking at the plenary session, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation Dang Minh Khoi provided general assessments of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, emphasising that the Congress was not only of historic significance but also stood out for its strong elements of renewal and breakthrough.

Sergey Uyanaev, Deputy Director of the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia, described the conference as a vibrant forum bringing together scholars from Russia, Viet Nam, Laos and Belarus, including a special session for young scientists.

He emphasised that many papers presented at the conference addressed the significance of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, and offered objective assessments of the current state of Russia–Viet Nam relations.

The Deputy Director of the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia further underlined that the recent phone talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Party General Secretary To Lam once again demonstrated that the senior leaders of both countries regard Russia–Viet Nam ties as one of their most important international relationships.

The conference comprised eight sessions, with presentations focusing on the restructuring of the public administrative system and Party building in line with the Resolution of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam; Viet Nam’s priorities and partners in foreign policy and external economic activities; Russia–Viet Nam cooperation; major orientations and prospects for Viet Nam’s socio-economic development to 2030; national reunification and the transformation of the development model over the past 50 years; and Viet Nam’s domestic policies.

The conference was expected to encourage the scientific community to provide in-depth evaluations of the historic decisions of the 14th National Party Congress and Viet Nam’s key development milestones in 2026, while continuing to formulate concrete policy recommendations to strengthen and advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Viet Nam and the Russian Federation.
