Both teams were determined to claim this year’s National Cup after unluckily losing the V-League title to SHB Da Nang in the last round of the tournament a few days ago.
Hanoi T&T started the game with a series of attacks against the host team but missed several chances to net the ball.
Huynh Kesly opened the scoring for Saigon Xuan Thanh with an accurate header in the 10th minute and Antonio doubled their lead in the 35th minute.
Hanoi T&T saw hopes for a comeback when Gonzalo produced a powerful, close-range strike to put a goal on the board for the guests just five minutes into the second half.
However, Gonzalo’s goal could not save Hanoi T&T from a loss as Hai Anh and Nguyen Rogerio scored two consecutive goals in the remaining 15 minutes of the match to seal a fine 4-1 win for Saigon Xuan Thanh.
With this victory, Saigon Xuan Thanh snatched the National Cup from Navibank Saigon, which trounced 2011 V-League champions Song Lam Nghe An 3-0 to claim the title last year.
