Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy PM Quang said over the past years, ministries, agencies, localities, publishers, libraries, businesses and individuals have actively joined the activity, contributing to spreading book reading and gifting movement across the country.
He asked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to spread reading culture and bring books to the community via honouring authors and bright examples.
The activity will last till May 1 with various events like a book exhibition, a book festival, a workshop on digital transformation in publication, introduction of authors and works about Hue, and seminars on socio-cultural and historical topics, as well as development trends of the publishing sector and music performances featuring Hue royal cultural heritages.
Eleven books kept by the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre will also be introduced to the public.
At the event, the Ministry of Information and Communications announced a communication programme for reading encouragement which aims to build columns introducing books, under a cooperation agreement with eight press agencies.
On the occasion, the provincial People’s Committee handed over 770 copies of the "Hue Bookcase" to 49 libraries throughout the province.
