Six Vietnamese public security officers appointed to UN peacekeeping mission at MINUSCA

The Ministry of Public Security held a ceremony in Ha Noi on July 23 to hand over the President’s decisions to officers assigned to the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission at the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

This marks the first time the Ministry of Public Security has deployed personnel to an armed United Nations peacekeeping mission, affirming the capacity of Viet Nam's police force in contributing to UN peacekeeping operations.

The event was presided over by Senior Lieutenant General Pham The Tung, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Head of the Steering Committee for Project 05 on the participation of the People's Public Security Force in UN peacekeeping operations.

MINUSCA, located in the Central African Republic, is one of the UN’s armed peacekeeping missions.

At the ceremony, a representative from the Department of Personnel and Organisation announced the president’s decisions to send six public security officers to MINUSCA. The decisions also included the extension of assignments for officers in Task Force No. 3 currently serving at the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) and Task Force No. 4 at the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

On behalf of the state president, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung presented the decisions to the officers of Task Force No.6.

In his address, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung emphasised that this assignment is both an honour and a responsibility for officers of the Vietnamese People’s Public Security Force, who have been selected to represent the image of the force in fulfilling international duties.

He called on the assigned officers to maintain firm political will, exemplary ethics, and a strong sense of responsibility; to demonstrate their abilities, qualifications, experience, and skills; to quickly adapt to local conditions; and to work closely with the mission to fulfil all assigned tasks with excellence.

He also urged the officers to proactively overcome hardships, extreme weather conditions, disease outbreaks, political instability, and potential security threats during their service. He instructed them to maintain communication and reporting channels with home agencies, to follow guidance from Viet Nam, and to coordinate effectively with the officers of the Viet Nam People’s Army currently serving at the MINUSCA.

On behalf of the task force, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quyen Chinh stated that joining the UN peacekeeping mission at MINUSCA is a tremendous source of honour and pride for each individual officer.

He affirmed that the officers would swiftly adapt to their working conditions and environment, strive to overcome all challenges, and fulfil all assignments given by the UN. Their contributions will also serve to successfully accomplish the political mission entrusted to them by the Vietnamese Party, State, and Ministry of Public Security.
