In the first semi-final match, Song Lam Nghe An took on Hoang Anh Gia Lai at Vinh stadium in Nghe An. The hosts missed two chances to score in the first half including Hong Viet's close range shot in the 45th minute when the ball just hit the crossbar. Meanwhile, Hoang Anh Gia Lai's players were also unable to open the scoring during the first 45 minutes.

After the break, Song Lam Nghe An continued to control the game. In the 65th minute, Trong Hoang fired a devilish shot from 17m to finally open the scoring and put Song Lam Nghe An ahead. The guests then speeded up the game, equalising the score in the 88th minute from the penalty spot. Hong Viet eventually sealed the 2-1 win for Song Lam Nghe An with a free-kick in overtime. With this victory, Song Lam Nghe An gained a berth in the final and stand a good chance of defending their championship title this season.

The second semi-final saw an exciting competition between Thanh Hoa and Navibank Saigon. Endene opened the scoring for Navibank Saigon in the 3rd minute but Le Van Thang helped hosts Thanh Hoa equalise the score only three minutes later. In the 30th minute, Endene widened the gap to 2-1 for Navibank Saigon and, with only one minute left in the first half, Thanh Hoa once again secured an equaliser thanks to Faye Pape Omar.

No more goals were scored during the second half so the two teams had to join a penalty shoot-out to determine the winners. In the end, Navibank Saigon defeated Thanh Hoa 5-3 and will meet Song Lam Nghe An in the final match, to be held on August 27.
