This visit underscores Sweden’s strong commitment to accompanying Viet Nam on its path towards sustainable development, innovation, and green transition in infrastructure.

The visit also follows up on key outcomes from the sectoral strategic partnership agreement signed during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Sweden in June 2025, aiming to further deepen bilateral cooperation in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.

Joint efforts for green transition

Under the theme of “Building green ports and modern railways,” the Swedish delegation — comprising leading enterprises and experts — will hold meetings with ministries, sectors, agencies, technical partners, and private investors of Viet Nam. Discussions will focus on cooperation opportunities in railway development, including the North–South high-speed rail project, as well as green transition in the port system and new port developments.

During her visit, Sara Modig will also meet representatives of more than 70 Swedish businesses currently operating in Viet Nam, reflecting Sweden’s growing role in supporting the country’s modernisation and green transition.

“Viet Nam is one of Sweden’s most dynamic and far-looking partners in the region. From smart infrastructure to digital innovation, we see many cooperation opportunities for joint efforts in developing green, competitive, and comprehensive solutions. Sweden and Viet Nam share great potential to shape a sustainable, flexible, and knowledge-based future together,” said H.E. Johan Ndisi, Swedish Ambassador to Viet Nam.

Innovation ecosystem and academic cooperation

In Ha Noi, Modig will introduce Sweden’s innovation ecosystem at the Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe Day event, which is co-organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Viet Nam, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

According to the Global Innovation Index 2025 released by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), Sweden ranks second among 130 economies, reaffirming its position as one of the world’s leading economies in innovation.

As part of the programme, educational exhibitions are being held in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City to attract Vietnamese students to study in Europe, with the participation of nine Swedish and Vietnamese universities, which have long-standing partnerships in academic exchange, student exchange, and joint research. Specifically, Karolinska Institute has signed four memoranda of understanding with Vietnamese training institutions and supported 65 Vietnamese PhD candidates in successfully defending their dissertations.

During her stay, Modig will also visit Hai Phong City to work with the Municipal People’s Committee and Swedish enterprises investing in the locality, as well as visit the VinFast electric vehicle factory.

Many Swedish companies are key partners in VinFast’s supply chain: ABB has provided over 1,000 industrial robots, Atlas Copco has supplied air compression solutions, and SKF provides bearing systems. The cooperation reflects the trust and high technical competence that Swedish enterprises bring to Viet Nam’s rapidly growing manufacturing sector.
