Sustainable domestic consumption promoted in 2026

Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenues in 2025 increased by 9.2% compared with 2024, reflecting the continued improvement in the economy’s purchasing power along with its role as an important driver of growth.

According to an analysis by the Statistics Office under the Ministry of Finance, the key drivers behind this growth include improved income and employment among the population, which has enhanced spending capacity. Consumer confidence has also been strengthened thanks to macroeconomic stability, timely support policies, and a more favourable business environment.

At the same time, the service sector has recovered strongly. Specifically, revenue from accommodation and food services in 2025 rose by 14.6% compared with 2024, while travel and tourism service revenue increased by 20.2%, leading to greater consumer demand. In addition, the robust growth of both international and domestic tourism has stimulated direct consumption and generated spillover effects across many other service sectors.

Notably, international arrivals to Viet Nam in 2025 reached nearly 21.2 million, up 20.4% from 2024 and representing the highest number of international visitors to the country in many years.

Furthermore, the rapid development of e-commerce, online shopping, and digital services has expanded distribution channels and made it easier for people to access goods. In addition, a wide range of demand-stimulation programmes, promotional campaigns, and consumer–business linkages have been widely implemented, contributing to the growth of consumer demand.

The Statistics Office forecasts that the consumption outlook remains positive and is likely to be sustained in 2026provided that macroeconomic stability is maintained, production recovery continues to receive support, and employment and incomes are preserved.

Moreover, if efforts to develop the domestic market are further strengthened, product and service quality improved, and opportunities in tourism, e-commerce, and the digital economy effectively harnessed, domestic consumption will continue to serve as a key pillar supporting economic growth.
