Nguyen Chi Thanh (1914-1967), whose given name was Nguyen Vinh, was born in Quang Tho commune, Quang Dien district, Thua Thien – Hue province. He took the post of Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army in 1950 and was brevetted general in 1959.
Delegates at the symposium agreed that comrade Thanh was an outstanding and loyal leader of the Party, State and Army, a talented politician and brave general, and an excellent son of Thua Thien – Hue province.
During his 30 years of revolutionary activities, he made significant contributions to the consolidation of the Vietnamese People’s Army, building new rural areas and fostering the emulation and rewards movements.
Speaking at the event, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the Commission Dinh The Huynh said that as an excellent disciple of President Ho Chi Minh, comrade Nguyen Chi Thanh was a shining example of a soldier who devoted his whole life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
Comrade Thanh always put the interests of the Party, the national revolution, and the people first, embracing all hardships and making contributions to the revolutionary movement. He lived a life in which his enthusiasm and his heart were always dedicated to the Party, the people and the country.
PCC Secretary and Head of the General Department of Politics under the Vietnam People's Army Sr Lt Gen Ngo Xuan Lich stressed the need for further and comprehensive study to complete documents on the life and career of General Thanh, as well as on his invaluable contributions to the Vietnamese revolution.
He also said the speeches and outcomes of the symposium are a valuable reference for the research and education on the General, as well as on the country’s history and tradition for the people and armed forces.
