Fully embracing the Party’s guidelines on sustainable development, in recent years, under the decisive direction of the Government, the State Bank of Viet Nam has proactively and innovatively implemented a comprehensive range of measures to promote green credit.
In recent years, credit institutions and Viet Nam’s capital market have begun to form capital channels for a number of environmentally friendly projects. Outstanding green credit in the banking system has risen sharply, reflecting strong interest from both banks and businesses in low-emission projects.
On December 19, in Ha Noi, the Viet Nam Association of Agriculture and Rural Development held the closing ceremony of the communication programme “Green Credit for Enterprises and Farmers 2025”.

In Viet Nam, over the past 10 years, greenhouse gas emissions have risen by 6.2% per year on average, reaching about 5.2 tonnes per person. This figure is approximately 45.6% higher than the average of countries in the middle-income group.
Viet Nam has called on the World Bank (WB) to provide preferential “green credit” to support mechanisation in agriculture and help cooperatives access funding to produce organic fertiliser from rice straw, thereby advancing the cultivation of high-quality, low-emission rice.
The Innovation and Startup Centre under the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) held a ceremony on July 5 to unveil the trial version of the P-Coin Green Credit System.
In the context of increasing globalisation and climate change, the development of green credit is not only an inevitable trend but also an urgent requirement for Viet Nam. As the lifeblood of the economy, the banking sector faces both great opportunities and significant challenges in advancing green finance.
