As electricity demand continues to rise and the need to ensure energy security becomes increasingly pressing, Viet Nam is systematically laying the necessary conditions to reinitiate its nuclear power.

Experts said that urgent requirements for Viet Nam’s nuclear power programme include preparing human resources, absorbing international knowledge and experience, and establishing cooperation mechanisms that enable overseas Vietnamese intellectual resources to make effective contributions to the country.

Developing human resources to meet the requirements of technology supplier countries and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is one of the important foundations for Viet Nam to implement its nuclear power programme safely and effectively. As the nuclear power programme is relaunched, the requirement is not only to provide personnel for nuclear power plants but also to gradually build a competent workforce in management, regulatory affairs, research, and technical support.

In the time to come, Viet Nam will continue to enhance its regulatory and technical capacity, focusing on safety assessment, inspection and oversight, as well as developing human resources and deploying a strategy for radioactive waste management.
