Tam Diep city, Chi Linh town recognised as new-style rural areas

Tam Diep city in the northern province of Ninh Binh and Chi Linh town in the Red River Delta province of Hai Duong have been recognised as completing all of the set criteria under the new-style rural area building programme.

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue, who is also Head of the Steering Committee for National Target Programme on New-style Rural Area Building, handed over the Prime Minister’s decision recognising Tam Diep as a new-style rural area on December 17.

Following seven years of implementing the programme, Tam Diep has made significant achievements in all fields. All local roads have been upgraded, while all degraded houses have been repaired, and nearly 95% of the people at the working age are employed.

Average per capital income of the locals in 2017 is estimated at VND40.8 million, while the ratio of poor households has been reduced to 1.68%.

Local resident donated VND162 billion to the programme, or 16% of the total cost, while businesses contributed over VND104.49 billion.

Addressing the ceremony, Secretary of Ninh Binh’s Party Committee Nguyen Thi Thanh congratulated the Party Organisation, government and people of Tam Diep for the success. She noted that Tam Diep is the first and only city, which is not a capital city of a province, in the Red River delta to have fulfilled all of the criteria of the programme.

She said she hopes that the locality would promote the achievements and make Tam Diep a level-two city in 2020, while attracting more investment and developing high technology agriculture.

* The same day, Chi Linh town in Hai Duong province also received the first-class Labour Order and the PM’s decision recognising that it has completed the new rural construction tasks in 2017.

During six years of implementing the new-rural area development programme, Chi Linh has mobilised resources to upgrade its infrastructure, schools, health clinics, irrigation systems and drainage and domestic water supply systems.

So far, the average annual income in the town has reached VND57 million per person, while the rate of poor households is down to 1.5% and the percentage of households using clean water reaches 99%.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the President, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Uong Chu Luu presented the first-class Labour Order to the Chi Linh town authorities.

Delivering the decision from the PM recognising the completion of the new-rural development task for Chi Linh, the provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Manh Hien urged the town to continue bringing into full play its achievements in order to better fulfill the socio-economic development tasks in the near future, focusing on attracting investment in industrial, tourism and service development.

It was also asked to improve the new rural criteria to turn Chi Linh into a new model in rural development, towards becoming a city as planned.
