Vietnam eliminates around 11,000 temporary and dilapidated houses in one week

According to the latest report on the progress of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, as of the end of March, Vietnam has supported the removal of 168,027 such houses nationwide. Among these, the removal of 81,607 houses has been completed, and construction has begun on 86,420 new houses. Over the past week, approximately 11,000 houses were either completed or newly constructed across the country, averaging 25 houses per day per locality.

Specifically, housing support includes: 15,491 houses for people with meritorious services to the revolution, 60,473 houses under two national target programs, and 92,063 houses under the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing.

In Dong Nai Province, authorities have approved a plan to eliminate 265 temporary and dilapidated houses. Of these, 20 houses meet the support criteria, while 245 do not yet qualify.

Various localities have also implemented significant initiatives to accelerate the elimination of temporary and dilapidated housing:

Da Nang: To commemorate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the city’s Party Committee (March 28, 1930 – March 28, 2025) and the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Da Nang (March 29, 1975 – March 29, 2025), the city government inaugurated a social housing project for people with meritorious services to the revolution. Located on Vu Mong Nguyen Street, Khue My Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, the complex includes 209 apartments ranging from 65 to 77 square meters each.

Binh Phuoc: The provincial government aims to complete the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses by April 30, 2025, two months ahead of the original deadline of June 30, 2025.

Binh Duong: All nine districts and cities have launched house construction projects for poor families. The province is committed to completing at least 50% of the identified temporary and dilapidated houses by April 30, 2025, as well as finishing the entire program by June 30, 2025, thus contributing to the national “Join Hands to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses” movement.

Yen Bai: The province is working towards completing the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses by June 30, 2025, in celebration of the 80th anniversary of its Party Committee’s founding.

Tuyen Quang: The province is mobilising all available resources and support from various organisations to help policy beneficiary families and poor households. By August 30, 2025, all identified temporary and dilapidated houses in the province are expected to be either rebuilt or renovated.

Ha Nam: The province has allocated 13.48 billion VND from its local budget to supplement central government support for building new houses for people with meritorious services to the revolution, families of fallen soldiers, poor households, and near-poor households.

Ha Tinh: The province has introduced an innovative approach by assigning specific organisations to support different areas. Groups involved include veteran bricklayers, veteran associations, youth unions, Red Cross chapters, farmer associations, women's unions, and armed forces. Additionally, the province treats each locality as a large-scale construction site, simultaneously initiating house construction projects across the region.

On the morning of March 28, 2025, at Kon Jri Xut Village Community House (Dak Bla Commune, Kon Tum City, Kon Tum Province), the Ministry of Public Security launched a campaign to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses and build new homes for ethnic communities in the Central Highlands. The Minister of Public Security approved funding of 84 billion VND to construct 1,400 new houses in Kon Tum Province to help the province achieve its housing improvement goals.

Regarding funding, under a National Assembly resolution allowing the use of 5% savings from the 2024 recurrent expenditure budget, on March 10, 2025, the prime minister allocated 4.557 trillion VND for local governments to implement the program.

As of March 28, 2025, local authorities have received 2.8368 trillion VND from the nationwide movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing. These funds, contributed by ministries, local governments, banks, and corporations, account for nearly 82% of the Central Steering Committee’s funding target. So far, 21 units have completed 100% of their financial transfers to support local implementation.
