“Contribute leaves to mend forests” campaign aims to plant 36,000 trees for forest restoration in Son La

The campaign titled “Gop la va rung – Vi mot Viet Nam xanh va phat trien ben vung” (Contribute leaves to mend forests – For a green and sustainable Vietnam) aims to plant approximately 36,000 trees, equivalent to restoring 60 hectares of forest, in Son La Province in 2025.
The campaign’s main goal is to contribute to efforts in combating forest degradation, promoting forest restoration, protecting biodiversity, and supporting local livelihoods.

The People and Nature Reconciliation (PanNature) has announced that following the success of 2024, the 2025 campaign will continue to be implemented in collaboration with PanNature, Vietnam Airlines, and MoMo.

This is a key initiative aimed at protecting and restoring natural forests in the Northwest region, while also demonstrating a strong commitment to promoting sustainable tourism.

Launched on March 3, 2025, the campaign aligns with World Wildlife Day and International Day of Forests on March 21, 2025.

The 2025 International Day of Forests has chosen the theme “Forests and Food”, highlighting the crucial role of forests in food security, nutrition, and livelihoods.

The funding for this campaign will continue to be mobilised by Vietnam Airlines and MoMo, with both organisations allocating a portion of their revenue from valid flight ticket transactions.

From March 3 to December 31, 2025, when customers book Vietnam Airlines tickets worth at least 2 million VND directly on MoMo, or pay for flight tickets using MoMo funds, they will contribute 5,000 VND, equivalent to one “Leaf”, towards the goal of restoring 60 hectares of forest in Son La.

Additionally, this year’s campaign will introduce a new fundraising channel through Heo Dat MoMo, allowing the broader community to participate. This initiative reflects the collaboration between social organisations, businesses, and communities in working together to protect and develop forests, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for Vietnam.

Previously, in 2024, the campaign successfully planted 35,000 trees and restored 53 hectares of forest in Hang Kia-Pa Co (Hoa Binh) and Van Ho (Son La). It also received the Sustainable Development Idea Award from the Human Act Prize 2024 – Community Action Awards.

According to PanNature Director Trinh Le Nguyen, ecological restoration is not just about planting trees, it requires a long-term sustainable process that demands perseverance and financial commitment to regenerate ecosystems and protect biodiversity.

“Collaborating with environmentally responsible businesses not only enhances conservation efforts but also ensures the long-term sustainability of forest restoration projects, contributing to a greener and more sustainable Vietnam,” Trinh Le Nguyen emphasised.

The “Gop La Va Rung – Vi mot Viet Nam xanh va phat trien ben vung” campaign was launched in 2024, integrating sustainable tourism with environmental conservation. Vietnam Airlines and MoMo have allocated a portion of flight ticket revenue to support forest planting and restoration, partnering with PanNature’s “Rung Xanh Len” (Green Forests Grow) programme. The primary goal of the campaign is to combat deforestation, promote forest restoration, protect biodiversity, and support the livelihoods of local communities.
