The statement was made by President To Lam, at his meeting with 120 elderly people at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on June 6, on the occasion of the 83rd traditional day of the Vietnamese elderly (June 6, 1941-2024).
At the reception, the President extended his best wishes of good health and happiness to the elderly.
He emphasised that they and the Party, have been steadfastly loyal and actively contributing to the work of the Party and building a cleaner and stronger political system. Meanwhile, the nation has been preserving the historical and cultural soul, fostering an indomitable spirit, and realising the aspirations for national independence associated with socialism.

Agreeing with the report by the Vietnam Association of the Elderly (VAE), President To Lam expressed his belief that with their initiative, creativity, and dedication, the elderly will bring revolutionary inspiration and create social influence, towards making great contributions to the operations of the VAE.
He asked the functional agencies to continue to have specific activities and policies to improve the quality of health care for the elderly so that they can live happily and healthily, and increase their longevity.

The President expressed his hope that the elderly will continue studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality and lifestyle; inspire and encourage their children and grandchildren to make the country more civilised, prosperous and happy.
On the occasion, President To Lam presented gifts to the outstanding older people and members of the VAE.
There are currently nearly 17 million elderly people nationwide, of whom more than 7 million still participate in work, production and business. Nearly 750,000 participate in the Party, government, Fatherland Front and grassroots organisations, and more than 300,000 join reconciliation and security and order teams in the villages.
