It took just six minutes for Vietnam to go ahead as Van Thanh produced an impressive personal performance among the siege of Thai defenders before curling a cunning shot into the far bottom corner of the guests’ goal.

Tuan Tai made it 2-0 shortly afterwards heading a left-wing corner from close range.

Despite their strong attacks, Vietnam’s defensive line made serious mistakes allowing Thailand to reduce the gap 1-2 in the 22nd minute before equalising the score in the last minute of the first half.

After the break, Vietnam played with greater concentration and deployed stronger offensives towards the Thai goal seeking to reclaim what they had lost.

The first-half scenario was repeated as Ti Phong and Xuan Manh blasted two goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half.

Despite their concerted efforts in the remainder of the match, Thailand failed to redo their first-half impressive resurgence and were doomed to an aggregate 2-4 loss to Vietnam.

The victory lifted U-21 Vietnam to the top of Group A with three points and secured them an official ticket to the semifinals despite one game left to play. Meanwhile, U-21 Thailand concluded their group competition in bottom place with just one point after one draw and one loss.

U-21 Vietnam will play their last group match against U-21 Singapore tomorrow.
