Queen Elizabeth showed her deep interest in Vietnam-UK friendly relations and co-operation while voicing her strong support for co-operative programmes between the two countries.

Ambassador Thao pledged his utmost efforts to further promote bilateral relations and co-operation. On the occasion, Thao also conveyed President Truong Tan Sang’s regards and good health wishes to Queen Elizabeth II.

At a later meeting with representatives from the Vietnamese community in the UK and UK friends, ambassador Thao noted that the Vietnam-UK relations have reaped positive results in all fields since the two countries established a strategic partnership in 2010. The two sides have implemented annual dialogues to enhance mutual understanding and trust and are celebrating the fifth anniversary of strategic partnership, he added.

However, bilateral co-operative outcomes have yet to fully match the two countries’ potential, Thao said, adding that an action programme for the next five years is under consideration seeking to further promote the Vietnam-UK strategic partnership on the basis of both countries’ benefits and interests.

The two sides have also been discussing the implementation of specific projects in order to make Vietnam an attractive destination for the UK business community, the Vietnamese ambassador shared. Educational co-operation and cultural exchanges will also be enhanced aiming to boost bilateral ties, Thao noted.
