UNESCO Culture and Development Week highlights sustainable development

Nhan Dan Online - The second UNESCO Culture and Development Week 2013 takes place in Quang Nam province from June 19 to 26 with a focus on discussing the multifaceted relationship between culture and development and measures needed to maintain sustainable development goals.

The event, which is part of the fifth Quang Nam Heritage Festival 2013 includes a wide range of activities such as an awards ceremony for a fine arts contest entitled "World Heritage in Your Hands" and the launching of a Tourist Information Centre in Hoi An ancient town.

The highlight of the event is a display of artifacts and relics from the UNESCO recognised My Son Sanctuary heritage site and a show themed 'UNESCO and Quang Nam collaborate for culture and sustainable development".

UNESCO and Quang Nam authorities also are going to announce the outcomes of their co-operation during the past ten years which demonstrate the contributions of heritage tourism to sustainable development.

In addition, they are going to share experiences in increasing the participation of local community in tourism so that they can enjoy more benefits from tourism industry as well as provide tourists with better experiences and preserve heritage for future generation.
