The group delighted the audience with a distinctive programme, including two new works composed especially for them by Tristan Schulze and Georg Breinschmid. Their repertoire also featured pieces by Pauline Viardot, John Williams, Johann Strauss II, Constanze Geiger, Mathilde Kralik, and Josefine Weinlich.
With a refined interplay of strings and percussion, the evening carried listeners from the romantic textures of opera and film music to the spirited elegance of Vienna’s celebrated dance tradition.
The concert marked the opening of a three-night series entitled The Vienna Concert, showcasing performances by members of both the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and La Philharmonica.
The second night, on November 28, entitled Chamber Night by the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, will highlight the exuberant musical spirit of Vienna.
The programme includes classics by Johann Strauss II, Eduard Strauss and Josef Strauss, such as the Fledermaus Overture, Mit Extrapost, Wiener Blut, Pizzicato Polka, Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald, and Unter Donner und Blitz Polka. The evening will conclude with Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G Minor, K. 550.
The final night, themed Spirit of Vienna on November 29, will present timeless masterpieces by Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.
The programme begins with Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 in D Major, K. 218 and Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K. 622, both emblematic of the elegance and emotional depth of Vienna’s classical era. These are followed by Haydn’s bright and energetic Sinfonia Concertante in B-flat Major, Hob. I:105.
The series will close with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92, whose driving rhythms provide a resounding tribute to Vienna’s enduring musical tradition.
