Viet Nam affirms commitment to green growth through participation in GREENEXPO 2027

Green development is no longer merely a matter of image; it has become the shared language of global progress. Against this backdrop, Viet Nam’s participation in GREENEXPO 2027 in Yokohama, Japan, carries significance well beyond the scope of a single promotional event.

The Government has issued Decision No. 629/QD-TTg approving the plan to take part in the GREENEXPO (International Horticultural Expo) 2027 in Yokohama, opening up opportunities to further promote Vietnamese agricultural products and green economy models to international markets.

Viet Nam will showcase key agricultural products, OCOP items, traditional craft village goods, alongside green and circular economy models. The country’s National Pavilion will operate from March 19 to September 26, 2027, with a flexible exhibition space designed by theme to maximise promotional impact.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has been tasked with leading the initiative and coordinating with relevant ministries, sectors, and localities to organise activities at the expo. The exhibition space will be adaptable on a weekly or monthly basis, ensuring refreshed content, greater interactivity, and sustained visitor interest throughout the event.

Viet Nam’s participation in international events such as GREENEXPO 2027 will be guided by a “national positioning” mindset, presenting a fresh image of its agricultural sector—greener, more innovative, rich in identity, and closely aligned with global sustainable development thinking.

GREENEXPO 2027 will run from March 19 to September 26, 2027 in Yokohama under the theme “Scenery of the Future for Happiness”, highlighting a vision of a future society living in harmony with nature.

For Vietnamese agriculture, this represents an opportunity to project a new image to the world: not only as a nation with production and export capacity, but as one pursuing a green growth model, responsibly and ambitiously rising within the global value chain. It signals a strong transition towards green growth, smart production, sustainable consumption, and deeper integration by value rather than sheer volume.

This sends a clear message about Viet Nam’s role in the global green economy: the country is not standing aside, nor falling behind, but actively engaging, adapting, and asserting itself through sustainable development values.

Within the expo framework, Viet Nam will host a range of key activities, notably periodic thematic promotion programmes introducing agricultural products, OCOP items, craft village goods, and green agriculture models linked to sustainability. The direct involvement of Vietnamese localities is expected to foster supply-demand connections and expand export markets.

Trade and investment promotion will also be strengthened, aimed at attracting resources for the green economy, circular economy, and digital transformation in agriculture. These orientations are crucial to enhancing added value, reducing emissions, and achieving sustainable growth.

A highlight will be Viet Nam’s National Day, held within the expo framework, which is expected to draw significant international attention. The national pavilion will also be developed as a 3D virtual platform, broadening accessibility for those unable to attend in person.

GREENEXPO 2027 is a large-scale international exhibition on horticulture and sustainable development. It is an A1-level event approved by the Association Internationale des Producteurs de l’Horticulture (AIPH) and recognised by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE).

Centred on the theme “Scenery of the Future for Happiness”, the 2027 expo seeks solutions to global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and the promotion of lifestyles in harmony with nature.

Covering an area of around 100 hectares in Yokohama, approximately 30 km from Tokyo, the event will leave a lasting legacy: following its conclusion, the site will be transformed into a public park dedicated to environmental protection and disaster prevention, ensuring that green values continue to resonate long after the expo ends.
