The visit, taking place from May 12-14 at the invitation of Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) Vice President and head of the CPP Central Committee’s Mass Mobilisation Commission Samdech Men Sam An, included a series of high-level meetings in Phnom Penh on May 13.
Trinh Van Quyet held talks with Acting Head of State, President of CPP, and President of the Cambodian Senate Hun Sen, Prime Minister Hun Manet and First Vice-President of the National Assembly Cheam Yeap.
During the meetings, the Vietnamese official conveyed greetings from Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and other senior Vietnamese leaders, while congratulating Cambodia on its recent socio-economic achievements under the leadership of King Norodom Sihamoni, the Cambodian People’s Party and the Government.
Quyet stressed that Viet Nam consistently supports Cambodia’s peaceful, stable and prosperous development, adding that the visit aimed to translate agreements reached by senior leaders of the two countries into more practical cooperation.
He underlined the importance of information, education and mass mobilisation work in strengthening political trust, social consensus and people-to-people ties between the two neighbours. He also called for stronger coordination in areas including political communication, youth education, defence and security cooperation, and the preservation of a peaceful and cooperative border.
Cambodian leaders welcomed the visit and reaffirmed the importance of the two countries’ traditional friendship, describing it as a valuable shared asset that should be preserved for future generations.
Hun Sen highlighted the significance of the upcoming 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027, describing six decades of ties as a journey marked by mutual support through periods of hardship and national development.
Prime Minister Hun Manet said Cambodia remained committed to close cooperation with Viet Nam in implementing bilateral agreements, while Cheam Yeap stressed the importance of parliamentary cooperation in promoting more substantive and sustainable ties.
On the same day, Trinh Van Quyet also held talks with Men Sam An and Chairman of the CPP Central Committee’s Commission for Publicity and Education Tak Sun Y. Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in political communication, cadre training, media collaboration, cultural exchanges and public outreach, particularly among younger generations.
The two sides also agreed to coordinate activities marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2027, with the aim of further deepening solidarity and mutual understanding between the two Parties, States and peoples.
During the visit, the Vietnamese delegation laid flowers at the Viet Nam-Cambodia Friendship Monument in Phnom Penh and met staff at the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Cambodia.
