On the occasion of a working visit to Russia led by Minister of Justice Hoang Thanh Tung, heading an inter-agency delegation comprising representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the Viet Nam Lawyers Association, and the Ministry of Public Security to attend the 14th Saint Petersburg International Legal Forum in Saint Petersburg, President of the Viet Nam Lawyers Association Nguyen Khanh Ngoc met with President of the Russian Lawyers Association Sergey Stepashin on June 24.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Viet Nam and Russia, while reaffirming the role of professional organisations in strengthening mutual understanding, trust, and cooperation between the two countries.

Nguyen Khanh Ngoc noted that the Viet Nam Lawyers Association and the Russian Lawyers Association signed a cooperation agreement in 2019. Since then, both sides have remained committed to implementing the agreed areas of cooperation and have recognised significant potential for expanding collaboration in the years ahead.

According to Nguyen Khanh Ngoc, strengthening cooperation would not only enable the two organisations to share experience and improve the effectiveness of their work, but could also make a meaningful contribution to the development of Viet Nam–Russia relations. He highly appreciated the attention that Sergey Stepashin, former Prime Minister of Russia, has devoted to bilateral relations, along with his commitment to promoting ties between the two associations, as well as cooperation between the two countries in general.

The two sides agreed that, under current circumstances, cooperation activities should be implemented with a strong focus on practical results through specific initiatives and clearly defined outcomes.

Based on the cooperation agreement already in place, the leaders of the two associations discussed and reached consensus on several specific proposals for future cooperation, concentrating on areas aligned with the functions and responsibilities of each organisation.

These include expanding cooperation in training and capacity-building for members of both associations, as well as exchanging experience and promoting the application of science and technology in professional activities.

The president of the Viet Nam Lawyers Association expressed confidence that the agreements reached during the meeting would soon be translated into action, delivering practical benefits to both organisations while further strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and Russia.
